Two people were killed and many others injured when a passenger vehicle crashed head-on with a car on Tuesday morning along NH-2 at Karong in Manipur’s Senapati district.
Official reports said an Alto car collided with a passenger service Winger van at a place between Karong Bridge and Mount Zion Secondary School, 6kms from Senapati police station along NH-2 at around 7 am.
The Winger van heading towards Dimapur from Imphal with 13 passengers on board collided with the Alto car which was coming from the opposite direction.
The Winger van fell into the Barak River, killing two of the passengers and injuring others. Two passengers reportedly escaped unhurt.
The injured passengers were rushed to the district hospital in Senapati district headquarters. The conditions of two of them were stated to be serious.
The deceased have been identified as Munna Kumar (32), a resident of Bihar’s Dandari Begusarai and Munna Kumar Sharma (24) of Rampur village of Uttar Pradesh.
The bodies were transferred to JNIMS morgue in Imphal for necessary official procedures before handing over to their respective families, the source added.
