
Dimapur, August 2 (MExN): Dimapur police have arrested two extortionists from 5th mile, Model village on August 1. The two, identified as one Khalong Amer, 25 years, from Changki village and an Inato Kiho, 19 years, of Sastami village were extorting money from a vegetable seller at his house and issuing threats and intimidating him, the Dimapur police said in a note today. The two are residents of 5th mile, police said.
According to the police, one of the two extortionists fired from a pistol. The bullet missed the vegetable seller. On hearing the gunshot, public members in the area rushed to rescue the trader. The said Inato managed to escape while Khalong was apprehended by the public, the police said. The said Khalong had thrown the pistol in a nearby teak plantation while trying to escape, the note said. Personnel of Diphupar police station reached the spot and arrested the accused. His accomplice was also arrested while a .22 country-made pistol with five rounds of ammunition and a shell were recovered from the teak plantation. A case of extortion and criminal intimidation under the Arms Act has been registered, police added.
