
Condolences for Collective Leadership member Chuba Pongen and Steering Committee executive member Imtiramok Jamir
Dimapur, November 8 (MExN): L Chuba Pongen (Moayimti), Member, Collective Leadership, Co-convenor, Steering Committee, NSCN (IM) and Imtiramok Jamir (Mongsenyimti), Executive member, Steering Committee, NSCN (IM) passed away in Dimapur on November 8.
Chuba Pongen passed away in Eden Hospital while Imtiramok Jamir breathed his last at Zion Hospital, after a prolong illness.
Following their demise, several NSCN (IM) leaders and others have mourned and conveyed condolences with prayers for the departed souls to rest in peace.
General Secretary of NSCN (IM), Th Muivah in a press note expressed sadness and shock on hearing the news of his fellow comrade, Chuba Pongen who he said was recently inducted into the Collective Leadership as member after he held various important responsibilities, such as Kilonser to Ministry of Chaplee Affairs, Co-Convener, Steering Committee etc.
“He was a young leader whose dynamic characteristics strengthened the nation and the government in times of national necessity. His death at a stage when he will become vital in strengthening the NSCN is an irreparable loss to the nation. The sacrifices and contributions he has given to the nation shall never be forgotten but shall be remembered and cherished at all times,” Muivah said.
NSCN (IM) Vice-Chairman, Tongmeth Wangnao said it is beyond believed that Chuba Pongener, a member of Collective Leadership and Co-convener of Steering Committee, NSCN (IM) has left us so suddenly.
“Death has taken any a genuinely beloved soul. While we mourn the loss of a dear friend, we pay tribute to the well-lived life. The Nation and Ao region had lost a great patriot who actively performed his role to protect the national interests on all occasions,” he said.
Wangnao in a condolence message stated that his selfless service rendered towards the Nation since 1998 will be remembered and cherished for all time to come and be recorded in the history of the Naga political movement.
“Unfortunately, the Nation will miss the service of Chuba when passing through a critical stage towards Naga's political solution. We have no choice but to reconcile with the fate given to each of us by the creator. Naga nation will deeply feel his absence,” he stated.
On the demise of Imtiramok, the NSCN (IM) Vice-Chairman said it has come as a terrible blow to me and the Naga nation as his death comes at a time when the Nation is passing through a critical stage, where we need the hands of all members to find a meaningful solution to the Naga political issue.
“But we have no choice but to accept what God has planned for Imti Ramok and the Naga nation. Imti, since he joined the national service in 1985, has shown his presence felt in different capacities and occasions. And we are proud of what he has done with patriotic spirit. We salute the memory of an exceptional man, known for his strength and noble engagement which are far reaching,” Wangnao stated in a press note. “His legacy will remain with us,” he added.
The NSCN (IM) Steering Committee, Caretaker/Convener, KK Angami in a condolence message said the Naga Nation is grieved and saddened by the sudden demise of one of its senior workers, Ramok Jamir who joined the National Service in the year 1999.
“The Naga Nation has lost a faithful National worker and a great leader, leaving a vacuum in the National service that will not be easy to fill. The Naga Nation will always cherish the selfless service he had rendered with pride and honour,” Angami stated in a condolence message.
The NSCN (IM) has also expressed shock to learn the demise of Chuba Pongen. He joined the National Service in the year 1998. “It is a profound loss not only for his family but also for NSCN in general. He was a stalwart national worker who never failed in his assigned duties” NSCN (IM) Steering Committee, Caretaker/Convener, KK Angami said in a press release.
“As we mourn his passing away, we are reminded of his resolute contributions over many decades to the resist for freedom. He served the nation whole heartedly without any reluctance. He was a man of principle who was unyielding in his commitment to the Naga people and for the cause of freedom of Nagalim,” he stated.
The release added that the NSCN (IM) salute “this great man, an outstanding patriot who gives his preeminent service for the Naga nation. His stirring leadership will be remembered for all times to come and history of Naga political movement will give him the place he deserved.”
Ao Senden: Meanwhile, the Ao Senden President, Chubawati Longchar and General Secretary, Imtipokyim in their condolence message expressed “deep regret and remorse” and condoled the sad demise of two Naga patriots and political leaders, L Chuba Pongen and Imtiramok Jamir.
“They both have disposed their best with all their abilities in the Naga freedom movement till their last breath which the Naga people will ever cherish and will ever be engraved in the history of Naga freedom movement,” the Ao Senden stated.
