Atleast two persons were reported killed in a shootout between rival NSCN-K Naga Political Groups (NPGs) on the Myanmar side of the Indo-Myanmar border. The clash took place at around 6:30 am on January 9 at a village near Pangsaung town, which falls in the Nanyun Township of the Naga Self-Administered Zone (NSAZ), Sagaing Region.
As per reliable sources, the NSCN-K (Yung Aung) attacked a cadre of NSCN-K (Ang Mai-Mulatonu) soldiers, who were said to have been camped at a location near Pangsaung town. The place of the clash is said to be barely some 5-6 km from the Pangsau Pass (border crossing) between India’s Arunachal Pradesh and the Myanmar’s Sagaing Region, and not far from the Stillwell Road.
Two soldiers on the Ang Mai-Mulatonu camp were reported to have been killed, while two others were wounded. Soon after the clash, the sources said that Naga villages in the surrounding area intervened preventing the situation from escalating. Myanmar Junta soldiers also reportedly arrived at the scene of the clash.
According to the sources, the area was predominantly a Yung Aung bastion, where the Ang Mai-Mulatonu group has been trying to make inroads.
