
Kohima, May 18 (MExN): The Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kohima recently convicted two persons in separate cases, for crimes under various sections of the Indian Penal Code including burglary and forgery, among others.
According to a press release from Assistant Public Prosecutor Kohima Khriezelhou Vitso who conducted both cases for the State, the first case pertained to an incident in June 12, 2021, wherein the accused, identified as Daniel Phom, entered a school building and stole cash of Rs 1,52,390.
Judge Nokshei Kano convicted the accused for burglary on May 6, and awarded a concurrent sentence of simple imprisonment for two years under Section 457 of the IPC, three years simple imprisonment under Section 380 IPC, along with a fine of Rs 2,000 (6 months simple imprisonment in default).
In the other case, as per the release, the accused Besuvoi Tetso befriended a tourist from Uttar Pradesh and cheated him monetarily on several occasions by impersonating and forging his signature.
On May 10, the Court convicted the accused under Sections 417, 419, 406 and 465 of the IPC and sentenced him for a period of one year and 24 days along with a fine of Rs 5,000 (6 months simple imprisonment in default), the release stated.
