DIMAPUR, JUNE 18 (MExN): 25 villages under the aegis of Tamlu Yongnyah Namsang Area Public Forum (TYNA) under Longleng district have submitted a representation to the Nagaland Minister for Higher and Technical Education opposing the government’s move to shift the already inaugurated Government Polytechnic Institute at Yungho Yongnyah, Longleng district to Hukpang, Longleng district “without any valid ground thereby superseding the earlier administrative approval.”
The representation appended by Village Council Chairmen of 24 villages said that this move superseded the earlier administrative approval vide NO.HTE/TE/20-10/2016 Dated, Kohima the June 17, 2016.
The representation said that it also also violates the Phom Peoples’ Council (PPC), the apex tribal body’s Resolution No. 3 which reads that “any means of government projects, schemes and funds should not be diverted nor shifted from one place to another (District Hq./ Sub Division/ EAC Hqs. and villages) and vice versa and all developmental funds should be judiciously utilized.”
“Against the backdrop of government’s unconcerned attitudes and irrational steps taken, the public of Tamlu, Yongnyah, and Namsang area Longleng district are totally dejected and disgraced upon,” the TYNA stated.
It informed that the public of the area held an emergency consultative meeting on June 18 and resolved to demand that the government uphold its earlier order; and “extend non co-operation to the Phom Peoples’ Council until such time when PPC writes a representation to the government reaffirming and upholding its 25th November, 2015 Resolution No. 3.”
It informed that the Chief Minister, Minister in-charge of H&TE and the government had surveyed and approved Yungho Yongnyah as the site for setting up the institute after “considering all feasibilities.” “There are ample justifications and also legally justified to set up the proposed Polytechnic Institute at the site and area where the government first surveyed and approved,” the TYNA stated.
Failure to address this matter, the TYNA stated would compel the people to conduct “several successive large scale agitation campaigns.”
