Nagaland U-17 Girls’ team today registered their first win against Ladakh 2-1 in the ongoing Hero Junior (U-17) Women’s National Football Championship being played at Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium Practice Ground, Guwahati.

Nagaland team scored the first goal through Dziezechunuo in the 40th minute. Four minutes later, Chimmushe added the second goal to make it 2-0 in the first half. 

While Aliya Ashraf scored one for Ladakh in the 69th minute, Nagaland managed to hold on the lead till the final whistle.  Chimmushe was awarded the player of the match. 

Meanwhile, State coach Ropfu Meyase said that it was a well-contested match, with Nagaland dominating the first half and Ladakh in the second half. 

“We will try to give our best in next two matches,” he added. 

Nagaland’s Youth Resources & Sports Advisor Er Zale Neikha took on Twitter to congratulate the team.

“A big congratulations to team Nagaland Women (U-17) for winning their 1st match at National Women Football Championship” he tweeted. 

The championship began on June 18 and matches will be played five different venues - Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Sai New Field- Paltan Bazer, Nehru Stadium, Lnipe- Sonapur, and Dimakuchi Stadium in Guwahati – till July 4.

A total of 34 teams divided into eight groups are participating in the championship. A team in each group will play three matches in the qualifying stage. The winners of each group quality for quarterfinals.

Nagaland team is clubbed in group E with Ladakh, Punjab and Kerala. Nagaland next match is against Kerala on June 24 and last league match is on June 26 against Punjab.
