Itanagar, April 26 (MExN): The United Christian Forum (UCF) has appealed to the Manipur government to take urgent and compassionate steps to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the state, marked by violence, displacement and widespread fear among civilians.
In a representation addressed to the Chief Minister, the forum expressed deep concern over the continuing unrest, stating that the situation has escalated beyond a temporary disturbance into a grave crisis affecting ordinary citizens.
Highlighting the impact of the violence, the UCF said lives have been lost, homes destroyed and families displaced, with vulnerable sections bearing the brunt. It noted that fear and insecurity have replaced the sense of coexistence, while even places of worship have not been spared.
The forum urged the government to ensure visible action to restore public confidence in law and order, and to provide protection and justice to affected communities. It stressed that silence or inaction at such a critical juncture could deepen the crisis.
Calling for unity, the UCF emphasised the need to rise above divisions of community, creed and identity, and to reaffirm shared values of peace, compassion and human dignity.
The forum also appealed to apex civil society organisations, including the United Naga Council, the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) and the Kuki Inpi Manipur, to work collectively towards restoring peace in the state.
At the same time, the UCF acknowledged the efforts of the state leadership in engaging with stakeholders and taking policy measures to address the situation.
Expressing hope for an early resolution, the forum said the people of Manipur aspire to return to normalcy, rebuild their lives and live without fear under a just administration. It also assured continued prayers for those in positions of responsibility, seeking wisdom and strength for restoring peace in the state.
