Mokokchung, June 3 (DIPR): Executive Engineer, Electrical Division, Mokokchung, Er. Moa Aier has said that billing system under Urban Electricity Management Boards (UEMBs) is now being implemented as per the Model Rules notified by the Government dated 16th July 2004, with effect from June 1, 2011. Moa Aier said that under the restructured billing system, the UEMBs shall be served as per actual meter reading as opposed to the previous slab system.
Immediate implications under the restructured billing system are; every consumer shall now be served bills as per their actual consumption. This will result in higher bills for many consumers, whereas, it may even lead to reduced billing in some cases. As per the provision of the Model Rules, Government Offices shall also come under the preview of the UEMBs. Therefore, Government Offices are also likely to face disconnection in case of non-payment to the UEMBs, Engineer said. Billing and collection of electricity revenue within Mokokchung Town is being managed by the UEMBs since the last several years. However the system was not in full conformity with the Model Rules 2004.
