UGI announces scholarship progs for students

Universal Group of Institutions (UGI) has announced scholarship programmes for students from Nagaland and the north-east for various courses in colleges run by the institution.  

Davinder Singh, head - Career Development Cell, UGI at a press conference in Dimapur today informed that the institute is offering a range of scholarship packages for various categories of students. While stating that the UGI’s objective is to target the economically weaker sections, Singh said that it is also offering special scholarships for meritorious students, SC/ST, sportspersons, defence personnel, children without parents, single girl child and even for students, who already has sibling(s) studying in UGI. “The aim is to encourage students who want to pursue higher education but could not for financial reasons,” said Singh of the programme objective.  

The scholarship packages will however be subject to marks scored by the candidates in the qualifying exams. The tuition fee coverage will be 20 percent for candidates, who manage 60-64 percent in the qualifying exams and more for scores beyond, while for those scoring 95-plus percent the scholarship will cover 100 percent of the costs, Singh said.  

UGI, which was established in 2009, according to Singh, is an NCTE and AICTE approved institution and affiliated to Punjab Technical University, Punjabi University, Indian Nursing Council and others. It offers 18 courses, including engineering, business management and bachelor’s degree is science (Agri), commerce and arts at the 7 colleges run by it, Singh added. Singh also stated that UGI has placement assistance for students graduating from the institute. All 7 colleges are located at its campus in Chandigarh, Singh said.  

Singh further informed that UGI has a number of counselling centres with Dimapur also having one at Bright Career Computer Institute, Circular Road. According to Singh, the Dimapur centre is open to anyone irrespective of the person’s interest to join UGI or not. UGI’s annual academic session begins in August.
