Dimapur, October 20 (MExN): Actions such as barring genuine citizens from entering their own native land or censuring people by deciding who is “anti-people” or “anti-national” for whatever reason, is “going too far” the Angami Public Organization asserts.
The APO was making its stand in regard to the NSCN-IM’s diktat issued recently against Goa Governor Dr. SC Jamir and Nagaland Principal Secretary Alemtemshi Jamir, IAS. The former was ‘barred’ from even reentering Nagaland and both were labeled “anti-people” and “anti-national” by the underground outfit. Mentioning this, the APO’s executives stated the issue constrained the organization to make its stand “straight” on the issue of the Naga citizens being censured.
An APO statement reminded that the democratic set-up of Naga heritage should not be “uprooted by any alien culture.” The statement appended by its president, Mhiesizokho Zinyu and secretary Ruokuoheu Miachieo asserted: “The Nagas have a rich and comprehensive culture and tradition and yet barring any bona fide Naga from entry into his own native land for whatever reason is going too far and out of step with the healing process.”
The APO also took note of some “new words” circulating in the Naga society today: “Factions,” “no-man’s land” even within Nagaland, “quit notice,” “Azha barring entry into one’s own native land” etc. The APO warned that these practices have the tendency to tile the balance of peaceful co-existence which will not be good for the Nagas.
“Truth is hardly complicated; people often try to complicate truth in order to avoid the truth. But the truth we must face is the Nagas are one people, and doing damage to any Naga soul is damaging the spirit of Naga brotherhood. How long can we go on hurting one another among ourselves? God forbid it” the APO stated.
The apex Angami body hoped that good sense would prevail so that “whatever Berlin Walls” there would be dismantled to make room for everyone to breathe freely. “The time has come for the Nagas to search their own hearts and accept one another as brothers. We are all seeking a solution to the political crises that confronts us; the answer to today’s crises does not lie in strangulating one another’s throat but in making more room for everyone to breathe more freely so that it changes the environment for the better, turns enemies into friends, or eliminates the sense of alienation among our people” the APO added.
