UK parliamentarians meet NSCN (I-M) team

DIMAPUR, JUNE 24 (MExN): A team from ‘Nagalim’ was on June 20 last accorded a standing reception inside the UK Parliament by parliamentarians led by Lord Nazir Ahmed and “friends from Kashmir and Khalistan,” among others, according to the Naga Support Group.

President of the Naga Support Group (UK), Professor Timothy Kaping, today said in a statement that though he could not be part of the meeting, owing to his preoccupation with his wife’s operation, “Like in May 2006, by the grace of our living God who loves the Naga Nation so much, this time too our team gave a strong message of support on behalf of Chairman Swu and did quite well.”

“Naga Nation and its fellow sufferer Sikh Nation are two good friends and equal partners. Nagas and Sikhs both here and elsewhere are united by our common commitment and dedication to the principles of self-determination, and we are grateful to the British Parliamentarians for National Self Determination for bringing all the oppressed and forcibly occupied nations together under one banner to struggle for our rights through democratic and peaceful means.”

Hitting out at Naga Vigil’s David P Ward, the professor said, “We don’t want Ward to insult the Sikhs. And, yes, MI-5 and MI-6 look for conmen like David P Ward.”

“Unless he is bluffing, Ward should provide the names of those parliamentarians who he claims are members of his gang.”

“Kashmiris know the treacherous behaviour of India and its agents like Ward. Lord Nazir Ahmed is a very committed Kashmiri. Knowing him as I do, what he said (‘We have received a copy of the Naga Vigil press release regarding the NSCN-M and have gone through it with care and consideration. We shall be bearing this in mind in the future’) was to say politely that he knows what kind of person Ward is; that Ward should leave alone lovers of self-determination. Well, two days later, Lord Ahmed welcomed the Naga team into the British Parliament.”

Kaping went on to say that NSCN (I-M) leaders Isak Chishi Swu and Th Muivah are not “armchair revolutionaries” practicing “luxurious lifestyles,” countering Ward’s earlier statements.

“Fortunately I lived with the two leaders for many years and I know how many scars their bodies have and the story of Naga freedom struggle each of these wounds tells.”

“And, yes, I never saw them indulging in any kind of luxurious lifestyle. These two gentlemen, who are non-smokers and complete teetotalers, lead such a strict Christian way of living that those young people like me who lived with them found life in foreign countries extremely disenchanting.”

The Naga Support Group further stated that the two leaders of the NSCN (I-M) lived by frugal means.

“No wonder, while in Nagalim for visa renewal, we often requested our home authorities not to send us back to the two leaders and their addiction to the real lifestyle of poor church mice.”

“A few days ago David Patrick Ward (54 Soughton Mains Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH11) talked of armchair revolutionaries and luxurious lifestyles. Many of us know that Ward collects donations in Britain and elsewhere in the name of the Nagas. He uses this blood money (I am using this term because there are many British people who want to help the brave Nagas in remembrance of the many sacrifices made by our people for the Allied forces during the two world wars) to finance his frequent trips to Kathmandu where he is given VIP treatment by the Khaplang group which own many hospitality services there. Also, Nagas have seen with their eyes that Ward, who falsely says that he is a revolutionary who supports the Naga cause, often goes to Switzerland to busily engage himself inside the UN café transporting tray after tray filled with cups of alcohol and disturb Naga teams’ attempts to highlight Indian atrocities in Nagalim and the right to regain our God-given freedom.”

Ward’s ‘Indian’ Vigil, according to Kaping, “has been collecting donations for long in the name of a Naga human rights group for non-existent hospitals etc. in Nagalim. Naga Support Group (UK) would like to know from the Naga civil societies, especially the Naga People’s Movement for Human Rights, whether Ward has their expressed consent to indulge in this racket. If so, then the Naga people, the NSCN in particular, must institute an enquiry, inasmuch as Ward is using this hospital extortion money to undermine the national objectives of Nagalim.”

“Contrary to what Ward has wrongly stated, nobody manufactured propaganda against him. The phrases such as ‘Scottish self-proclaimed human rights activist’, ‘underworld gang leader’, ‘self-serving womaniser’, ‘tricky person’, ‘dropped out of school’, ‘I am not anti-Indian’, ‘criminal activities’, etc. were used by respected British newspapers and Yahoo in describing David P Ward from Scotland. Ward knows that, unlike some biased newspapers in India vis-à-vis Nagalim, these internationally acclaimed journals are very careful of their articles.”
