A jilted NDPP worker shifted loyalty to the Congress on the last day of nomination filing. Khrozote Kapfo, who was the Secretary, Media Cell, NDPP, addressed a hurriedly arranged press conference flanked by newfound friends in the Congress at the Congress Bhavan, Dimapur on Tuesday morning, June 11.
He was initially an expectant NDPP contender from Ward 8 to the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC). But expectation turned to disappointment on June 10, when his name was not featured in the list of NDPP candidates for the DMC.
As a party loyalist, he said that he had high hopes of getting the ticket as assured by party leaders. “I was assured of the party ticket from Ward 8 but my name was not in the list at the ticket distribution programme yesterday (June 10),” he said.
He felt let down, and in consonance with supporters from his ward, decided to join the Congress. According to him, he was among the earliest NDPP workers in Dimapur, going on to become the party’s Media Cell Secretary.
He held that the NDPP leadership forgot loyalists, opting for “bigshots” or candidates with influence, but
nes who had no affiliation with the party prior. He alleged that the NDPP ticket for Ward 8 went to one who was not from the ward.
He said that his objective, as a DMC member, will be to improve urban amenities, especially drainage, in Ward 8.
