The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) Wokha Region organised its ticket ceremony programme for ULB Election 2024 at Hammock Resort, Wokha on June 10 in the presence of Dr Chumben Murry, Former Minister and MLA & Advisor for Agriculture, Mhathung Yanthan.
A total of 11 candidates were issued the NDPP ticket, comprising three women from the reserved ward: Y Renthunglo Kikon, Nzanbeni Humtsoe, and Thungchano Kikon. Additionally, two women from the General Ward were included: Grace Murry and N Grace Murry. The remaining six candidates were men: K Lidemo Murry, Y Elabemo Kinghen, Khozamo Lotha, E Zuthungpemo Ezung, Limathung, and Hapenthung P Ezung, all representing NDPP.
Dr Chumben Murry in his speech stressed the importance of female involvement in the decision-making sphere, anticipating positive transformations. He encouraged all contenders to uphold the party's values, exert diligent efforts, and secure victory in the elections. Additionally, Dr Murry voiced optimism about Wokha's potential transition into a municipal ward, highlighting the forthcoming ULB elections as a catalyst for progress and enhanced accountability after a hiatus of two decades.
Advisor Mhathung Yanthan underscored the significance of women and voiced confidence in the potential contributions of their insight. He commended the NDPP as a polished party, emphasising its motto, "Facts non verba," which underscores the priority of action over rhetoric. Yanthan highlighted the party's meticulous survey process, wherein tickets were allocated based on merit. He urged all individuals to endeavour towards triumph in the elections, thus enhancing the party's prestige.
Short speeches were delivered by ULB candidates Lithungo Murry and Grace Murry on behalf of the NDPP candidates.
The programme, chaired by Pyingthungo Ezung, VP NDPP Wokha Region, included an invocation offered by Oren Odyuo, VP NDPP Wokha Region, a welcome note by John Ezung, President NDPP Wokha Region, and the Declaration of Candidature & Oath of Allegiance by T L Merry, Convenor NDPP Wokha Region, Election Committee (ULB 2024). Dedication of Party Tickets & Candidatures was offered by R Samuel Ovung, Associate Pastor WTBC, followed by a Vote of Thanks by Lily Kikon.
