In view of the upcoming ULB election 2024, the Kitsubozou Panchayat Kohima today organised common platform for the candidates of Kitsubozou (Ward 5) under Kohima Municipal Council.

Two candidates are in the fray for this Ward-5, including Kekhriezelie Khezhie as Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) candidate and Vimhalie Pienyü as Independent candidate.

Kitsubozou Panchayat Chairman, Dzieseneilie Sachü reiterated the Panchayat resolution not to allow any candidate to set up camps except in their own respective home. He informed that on the day of polling, the panchayat officials along with its subordinate bodies would maintain strict vigil and not allow any form of proxy voting and also discourage one person of the family to vote for the entire family.

He appealed to the candidates and their supporters not to indulge in any form of ‘hate speech’ but to maintain peace and tranquility in the ward. Sachü also urged the denizens of the colony to exercise their vote conscientiously and choose the right candidate for the benefit of the ward in general without any inducement.

Extending best wishes to both candidates, Sachii hoped that whoever wins would work for the general welfare of the ward.
The programme was chaired by Kitsubozou Panchayat joint secretary Ruokuohetuo Mechülho while general secretary Atoulie Mechülho proposed vote of thanks.

In his speech, Khezhie said he was born and grew up seeing the various problems and challenges faced by the colony and also lacking in many aspects with other colonies.

Therefore, he said, took up the challenge to himself to contest the ULB election in order to work for the general welfare of citizens.

Having served in different capacities in the colony including Youth president, and also Panchayat member for around 18 years, Khezhie said he would work towards improving water facilities especially during dry season, road sector and to uplift the economic conditions of the people and the women of the colony.

Khezhie also affirmed that as the candidate of the ruling NDPP government of the state, he said that if elected, he would be in a better position to work for the Ward’s welfare directly with the government’s support.

Pienyü said that Kitsubozou Ward still lacks some basic amenities and modern infrastructure to keep up with its ever-increasing population and habitation.

Having served as the Panchayat chairman of the Ward from 2020-2023, he said he realised that Kitsubozou Ward has many challenges which presents itself as opportunities for growth and progress and therefore he humbly and wholeheartedly taken the challenge to embark on this journey for the progress of Kitsubozou Ward by contesting the ensuing ULB Elections.
