Dimapur, May 19 (MExN): A possible direct showdown between district business chambers and some Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) was likely averted following the suspension of the indefinite shutter-down agitation on Monday evening. The agitation had been called by business chambers from nine districts demanding nomination representation in ULBs.
Earlier, on May 18, the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) had announced its opposition to the shutter-down and appealed to businesses within its jurisdiction to remain open. Some DMC ward councillors followed up with direct appeals to shops in their respective wards.
Meanwhile, town councils such as Chümoukedima, Jalukie, Wokha, and Zunheboto, among others, issued directives to business establishments to open or face penalties, purportedly under provisions of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023.
