
Dimapur, June 17 (MExN): Most of the 61 intending candidates from Eastern Nagaland, where there is a general call for poll abstention led by the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO), have withdrawn their candidatures from the upcoming June 26 elections to urban local bodies (ULBs) in Nagaland.
On June 15, another 19 candidates withdrew - 17 from Shamator Town Council and 2 from Pungro Town Council, according to updates from the State Election Commission (SEC).
With this, a total of 53 out of 61 intending candidates have withdrawn their candidatures from the civic polls. Now, only 8 candidates remain.
However, there is anticipation that all candidates from the ENPO area will pull out by the last date for withdrawal of nominations on June 20.
