MLA and Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Zhaleo Rio said that the elected Urban Local Bodies should collect and dispose urban waste daily. Zhaleo was responding to a query on the Dimapur Municipal Council recently hiking the Residential Sanitation Fee by Rs 20, from the existing Rs 60 to Rs 80. While the DMC cited increased operational costs for the fee hike, its waste collection routine has reduced to once a week. Before the DMC was elected, household waste collection trucks routinely made the rounds 2-3 times a week. While stating that he cannot speak on behalf of the DMC, Zhaleo said that he will direct the DMC accordingly. Meanwhile, the DMC Chairperson hurriedly exited the venue.
