ULFA and WC NNPGs declare mutual respect for ongoing dialogues with GoI

Guwahati, February 4 (MExN): The Working Committee of the 7 Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) and United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) issued a joint statement today declaring mutual respect for each other’s ongoing peace parleys with the Government of India (GoI).
The statement was signed by top leaders of the two entities led by ULFA Chairman, Arabinda Rajkhowa and WC NNPGs Convenor, N Kitovi Zhimomi.
It said that the two sides met in Guwahati on February 4 and “exchanged views and opinions in a frank and transparent manner,” while deliberating on crucial issues pertaining to the political dialogues.
According to the statement, the WC expressed respect for the peace process between ULFA and GoI calling for an “early inclusive agreement… fulfilling the aspiration of the Indigenous people of Assam,” while the ULFA recognized “the political negotiations between WC, NNPG & GOI as a practical approach towards resolving the nearly century old political conflict.”
The two sides agreed to pursue people-to-people dialogue and cultural exchanges for maintain the “age old peaceful co-existence between the two peoples in order to resolve all issues affecting the two communities at large.” It further agreed to sustain and preserve the relationship in the days to come.
