ULFA claims blowing up of OIL installations

Guwahati, December 2 (NNN): The anti-talks faction of the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) led by Paresh Barua on Friday claimed to have blown up two major installations of the Oil India Limited (OIL). But police said it was a false claim.
The ULFA was expected to strike on November 27, its ‘protest day’ marking the launch of Operation Bajrang against it in 1990. But it lied low apparently to make the security forces relax a bit.
The outfit’s purported strike at a crude collection station at Tipling near OIL headquarters Duliajan in eastern Assam caused a major fire in two oil laden tankers. The police, however, rubbished the claim. “They are lying. It was an accidental fire and not an act of sabotage,” Dibrugarh district police Chief Arabinda Kalita said.
