ULFA (I) cadre killed in security ops in Arunachal’s Namsai district

Kohima, October 22 (MExN): A cadre of the United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) [ULFA (I)] was reportedly killed during a security operation in Namsai district of Arunachal Pradesh on the intervening night of October 21 and 22.

According to a press release from the PRO & Spokesperson, Ministry of Defence, the joint operation by the Indian Army and Assam Rifles units “established contact” with suspected ULFA (I) cadres in the MS-6 area of Namsai.

A subsequent search at first light led to the recovery of the body of an ULFA (I) cadre, identified by the PRO as “Sergeant Major Iwon Axom.” One rifle, one RPG round, and three rucksacks were also recovered from the site, the release stated.

The operation is ongoing, with additional columns of security forces, police, and the CRPF deployed in the area, it added.
