
Dimapur, February 25 (MExN): The Divisional Forest Officer, Dimapur Division, Kocha Meyase, IFS, through a press note notifies all those concerned to close down unauthorized Timber based industrial units and other subsidiary units which do not possess proper approval of the concerned authorities. “Further, the proprietors of genuine units, operating under the License of Industrial department can apply for the Forest Trade License in the office of the DFO, Dimapur with the relevant documents for subsequent processing of the same,” the note instructed.
Dimapur DFO stated “It has been observed that numerous Timber based industrial units and other subsidiary units viz Saw Mills, Moulding Beat Units, Sawn Timber Sale Depots, Stone Crusher Units, Bamboo and Balli Post Sale Depots, and Sand & Stone Chips Sale Depots are mushrooming in and around Dimapur without proper approval/clearance from the concerned authorities.
The note also mentioned that, section 9 of Transit Rules under Nagaland Forest Act, 1968 notified vide No. FOR-V (Misc) 43/67 (6) dated Kohima, March 1, 1969 states that no person shall establish saw mill or a saw pit in the state except with the previous sanctions of the state government. Further, Supreme Court in response to Writ petition (C) No 202 of 1995 has stated that the wood based industries approved by the High Power Commission should be located only in the Industrial Estates as notified by the State Government. Also, section 2 of the rules relating to Quarrying and Collection of Stones notified under Nagaland Forest Act, 1968 vide no. For-V 43/67 (9) dated Kohima, March 1, 1969 states that a person or company who quarry or collect stones, gravels or sand for domestic use or use in any industry or for supply to third party is entitled to do so only upon receipt of a permit from the Forest Officer In-Charge, stated the note.
