DIMAPUR, AUGUST 11 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Committee (NPCC) has welcomed the appointment of Sonia Gandhi as Congress President and has extended full support in furthering the programmes, principles and ideologies of the Congress under her able and dynamic leadership.
In a press communiqué, NPCC president K Therie also expressed profound gratitude to Rahul Gandhi for steering the party as President through the most trying and difficult phase with utmost dedication, sincerity and selflessness and wishes him the best in all future endeavours.
On the issue of Kashmir, Therie said the nation is aware that all the provisos provided in the Constitution with honourable agreements are in danger. It maintained that Art 370 was included after Maharaja Hari Singh reluctantly signed Instrument of Accession on 26th Oct 1947 as per records.
Therie therefore termed it “unbecoming of respectable India to go back from the agreement that its ancestors and the founding fathers of Indian independence have made.”
“If India can go back from such an agreement in an ordinance, there is no provision that is safe. Alleging Nehru responsible for Art 370 also undermines other leaders in the Drafting Committee. The betrayal is an insane act of breach of trust,” he stated.
Instead of such insane actions, Therie stated that India should have persuaded Pakistan to honour Maharaja Hari Singh and GoI’s Instrument of Accession and vigorously pursue peace and develop infrastructures that are of mutual interest for the growth of economy with all neighbours. For those who dishonour the Instrument of Accession, there are appropriate laws and provisions to deal with them and they should have been dealt with, without fear and ill will.
Therie also cautioned that Nagaland is equally fragile. “They can divide Nagaland into two UTs and erase Art.371 (A) and tell us it is the demand of the people. I do not believe we can cow down India neither India can cow us down. The negotiation is to attain mutual interests,” he said, while adding “If anything happens to Nagaland in the manner of Jammu & Kashmir, the representatives of the day that are supporting BJP Government will be held responsible.”
