UNC persuades need for inclusive Naga reconciliation

Dimapur, June 18 (MExN): The United Naga Council today encouraged carrying forward the commitment made for reconciliation by the Naga groups with the collective participation of civil society. The United Naga Council in a message today expressed support and appreciation to all the leaders of the Naga “political” groups for their courage in acknowledging the need for reconciliation. “The UNC feels this opportunity should be carried forward with the collective participation of all Naga social organizations, churches inclusive of all sections of people with integrity and accountability,” the UNC’s message stated.

It has appealed to all the Nagas irrespective of “profession” to contribute to creating “mechanism” cutting across the arbitrary boundaries to reach out to ‘villages, khels, clans and families’ in making this Journey of Common Hope a reality. The UNC also, on behalf of the Nagas from the south, expressed appreciation and support to the Forum for Naga Reconciliation and to the “international community” for their “unbroken” efforts. The UNC reaffirms its commitment to the covenant of common hope for genuine reconciliation ‘on mutual respect and acceptance basing on the historical and political rights of the Nagas.’

People Support group expresses happiness
The “Naga National Workers People Support Group” today expressed happiness that “some of our dreams are materializing into reality,” The group was referring to Isak Chishi Swu, chairman of the NSCN/GPRN, SS Khaplang, chairman of the GPRN/NSCN and “brig. (Retd.)” S Singnya ‘Kedahge’ (president) of the FGN committing to reconciliation at Chiangmai in Thailand.

The organization said it was happy that the leaders “convicted by God’s call in Christ” have “solemnly committed before God to offer themselves to Naga reconciliation and forgiveness based on the historical and political rights of the Nagas.” It is historic “in nature,” a note from the organization stated. “What is more appreciative is that they resolved to continue to work together in this spirit of love, non-violence, peace and respect to resolve outstanding issues amongst the Nagas. They have furthermore exhorted and called upon other Naga groups to join them in reconciling with each other which is heartening…” it said.

Expressing solidarity the organization, also appreciated the hard efforts of the Forum for Naga Reconciliation and hoped that “it will smoothen up the loose ends which still exist in the Naga society for the feelings and passions of every group for the Naga future are important”. The ‘support group’ urged them to work harder toward finding a common platform for the Nagas’ future “with more courage and clarity for the end of justice and to have wider and honest conversation that will build and strengthen better understanding amongst Nagas for sincere co-ordination and co-operation with each other for strengthening the process of Naga reconciliation and unity.”
