
Dimapur, December 12 (MExN): The United Naga Democratic Party of Nagaland (UNDP) was re-named United Socialist Democratic Party (UNSDP). This decision was taken at the plenary session of the UNDP held on December 11 at the party head office by amending its constitution.
At the session veteran social worker Ntsemo Ngullie was unanimously elected as president to head the party and TK Meyo as working president. In a note appended by its general secretary C N Lotha the UNSDP reiterated its support to the on going peace process and the negotiations going on between GOI and the Naga national workers. It also appealed both sides to ‘sincerely negotiate’ to bring an early but lasting solution to the Naga political problem.
The party also unanimously resolved to urge the central government for the integration of ‘Naga Contiguous inhabited areas’ to fulfill long cherish aspirations of the Nagas to live together as one. UNSDP further expressed strong support to the peace process initiated by DAN govt. under the leadership of Nephiu Rio towards bring about a lasting and permanent solution of the Naga problem.
The newly constituted UNSDP considering the emergence and pragmatism of coalition politics authorized T.A. Ngullie, Advisor to the party to officially examine and study the possibilities of alliance with political parties having similar ideologies and programmes.
The Party at the plenary session called upon the Central government for stronger preemptive measures against terror strikes while UNSDP unequivocally condemned the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai.
