Mokokchung: With an aim to preserve the degradable flora and fauna, the Ungma Senso Mungdang (general meeting) held in December 2013, resolution no. 4, resolved to constitute a Wildlife Sanctuary Committee (WLSC) with Imolemba Jamir, Chairman, Ungma Village Council as the convener.
Stating this in a press release, WLSC Publicity Cell informed that the aim of the committee is to locate an idle forest within Ungma Village jurisdiction and declare as reserved areas where both flora and fauna will be preserved. The committee will also encourage collective efforts in terms of contributing wild animals and creating a safe sanctuary. Any defaulters from within the village or from outside will be liable to stringent punishment by the Village Council, the release cautioned.
The first meeting of the committee was held on March16, and the members decided to constitute a sub-committee with the nomenclature –Management Board consisting of 15 members selected from Kohima, Dimapur, Mokokchung and Ungma village. Appointments for the members are being dispatched and the first meeting of the Management Board will be held on April 19, 2014.
