As admissions to Class XI go online as per the directive of the state government amid the COVID-19 pandemic, a new uniform fee structure has been introduced for classes IX-XII in all the government schools in Nagaland. In a notification dated June 11, Principal Director of School Education, Shanavas C, had notified that all government schools functioning within the state of Nagaland shall follow the uniform fee structure with immediate effect.

Speaking to The Morung Express on condition of anonymity, an official from the School Education Department revealed that last year, based on the complaints received on the fee disparity in government schools, a proposal for a uniform fee structure was made by the department. Previously, the fee structures in government schools ranged from Rs 1000 to Rs 3500 as total admission fee to Class XI for Arts and Commerce and Rs 2650 – Rs 5050 in the case of Science Stream.

To facilitate the process of online admissions, the proposal has recently been approved. The department has taken this new step in the interest of the public and for the welfare of the students, the official said. “With the admissions to Class XI being made online, we also realised that there is a large disparity in the fee structure and the state government has given its approval yesterday and we have notified the schools accordingly,” he informed.

One of the problems, he also noted was that in the past, accounts on the amount collected by schools as admission fee were neither maintained nor audited. However, he said, “from now onwards, schools will have to maintain proper accounts and for which purpose, the amount is collected, that amount should be utilized for that purpose only.”

The fee structure for all government schools in Nagaland as per the notification is now Rs 1250 for Class IX and Rs 1050 for Class X. For Class XI (Arts & Commerce), the admission fee will be Rs 2050 and Rs 2950 for Class XI (Science), while for Class XII (Arts & Commerce), it is Rs 1800 and Rs 2700 for Class XII (Science).

The notification had further directed all government schools “to ensure that the amount collected are utilized strictly for the purpose for which it has been collected and accounts of receipts and expenditure be maintained properly which are subjected to audit by the department.”

The online admission process for Class XI was earlier slated to commence from June 10, but has now been rescheduled to June 15 through the department’s website- https://education.nagaland.gov.in/.
