DIMAPUR, MAY 20 (MExN): Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment, Dr Virendra Kumar today interacted with the District Administration officials of Kiphire District through video conferencing at Niathu Resort, Chümoukedima. 

The Union Minister virtually inaugurated a free distribution camp of aids and assistive devices for identified Divyangjans in the Kiphire district, a report from the DIPR informed. Speaking on the occasion, he expressed delight over successfully organizing of the ministry's camp in Kiphire, and appreciated the district administration and staff of ALIMCO, SVNIRTAR and AYJNISH, for defying odds of nature's obstacles to successfully organise the camp despite the difficult weather conditions. 

The camp, which is also one of the largest social welfare camps organised post COVID-19, witnessed a large turnout of PwDs, and the general public at the Hoponghyu Memorial Hall, Kiphire.

On the second day of his tour i.e, May 21, Dr Kumar will be interacting with the BJP workers and will be visiting the Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts, granted by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment .

Samajik Adhikaritashivir for the distribution of aids and assistive to 'Divyangjan' under the ADIP scheme and to senior citizens under Rashtriya Vayoshi Yojane' (RVY) of the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Gol, organized by Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment in association with ALIMCO, SVNIRTAR and AYJNISH and district administration Kiphire was held. 

In addition, SVNIRTAR and AYINISH held an awareness session on ‘Disability Rehabilitation Services in NER’ and Cochlear implants in addition to distributing aids and assistive devices to identified Divyangians. A vital role in raising knowledge about the many services, programmes, and benefits offered by the central government to empower Disabled people (Divyangjan) for inclusion in the main stream.

AYJNISHD conducts awareness programmes on Cochlear implant through its East Regional Centre, Kolkata in Northern Eastern States; while SVNIRTAR, Cuttack also provides various types of rehabilitation service through CRC, Guwahati. 

ADIP primary objective of the scheme is to provide good quality prosthetics and assistive devices to disabled persons through voluntary organisation. It helps people with disabilities by bringing new possibilities with suitable, durable and scientifically manufactured with modern technologies to overcome the effects of disabilities. The scheme also envisages conduct of corrective surgeries. 

In Nagaland the scheme is implemented through implementing agencies such as ALIMCO (Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India), AYJNISHD (Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Possibilities) and SVNIRTAR (Swami Vivekananda National Institute of Rehabilitation Training and Research).
