Shamator, February 26 (MExN): The Union Minister of State, Steel and Heavy Industries, Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma was on a two-day visit to Shamator district, Nagaland on February 25 and 26, to review the socio-economic progress made by the district. The visit assumes significance, as Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma is the first Central Minister to visit Shamator post-independence, which is located in the far eastern region of Nagaland, stated a DIPR report.
During the visit, Varma reviewed the status of implementation of various developmental projects which are funded by the central government for accelerated development of the district. The Minister reviewed various projects pertaining to the PWD Department, Rural Development and the status of physical infrastructure including road connectivity. He interacted with officials from the Community Health Centre and distributed Ayushman Health Cards to the beneficiaries.

The Minister also interacted with the students and motivated them by answering their queries and shared his experiences with the students during his visit to Government Higher Secondary School, Shamator.
Further, Verma interacted with the people from tribal communities – Yimkhiung, Tikhir and Sumi, and ascertained the issues pertaining to them. The minister highlighted that the newly formed Shamator district is a District of Aspirations and urged all the communities to benefit from the inclusive policies of the central government. He added that the Ministry for Development of North Eastern Region under Minister, Jyothiraditya M Scindia have formulated policies which aim for convergence of schemes of central and state government for accelerated development of the Northeast region.
On his arrival to the district, the Minister had received a ceremonial welcome from the tribal communities of Shamator. He also participated in the community breakfast at Leangkonger Village and said that Shamator district is called Brotherhood district because of unity and cooperation between all the communities, and . He assured that the Union Government is fully committed to the development of Nagaland based on the needs felt by the people through inclusive policies.
The Union Minister was accompanied by Advisor, Youth Resource and Sports, Keoshu Yimchunger; President Tribal Council, Thrungso; Colonel Archit Goswami, 14 Assam Rifles; District officials led by the Deputy Commissioner, Shamator and members from all the tribal communities.
