Union Tourism Ministry to develop two tribal circuits in Nagaland

Rs. 197.3 cr sanctioned for two tourism projects in the state

Two circuits in Nagaland have been identified as tribal circuit for development under Swadesh Darshan Scheme of India’s Ministry of Tourism, the Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday.

In a written reply to a question in lower house of the Parliament, the Union Minister of State (I/C) for Tourism K J Alphons stated that the tribal circuit is one of the fifteen thematic circuits identified for development under the ministry.  

The Swadesh Darshan Scheme aims to develop tourism infrastructure in the country in a planned and prioritized manner on the principles of high tourist value, competitiveness, sustainability, enriching tourist experience and creation of livelihood opportunities at local level, he added.  

According to a PIB release, the two circuits identified in Nagaland are Peren- Kohima-Wokha Tribal Circuit and Mokokchung-Tuensang-Mon Tribal Circuit.  

An amount of Rs. 197.3 crore - Rs. 97.36 crore and Rs. 99.67 crore respectively - have been sanctioned for the development of these circuits, the Minister added.   The current projects, Alphons informed, are part of several promotional activities by the ministry in the domestic and international markets for promotion of the varied tourism products and destinations of the country including tribal areas.
