Dimapur, May 18 (MExN): The Yimchungru Union Dimapur (YUD) and Sangphur Union Dimapur (SUD) have condemned the arrest of Yimso Yimchungru by the Army on May 14 at Lahorijan Market in Assam’s Karbi Anglong “for the reason best known to them.”
In a press release, the unions clarified that Yimso is an active executive member of Yimchungru Union Dimapur, earning his bread and butter as an auto rickshaw driver for the past two years and engaged in dropping and picking school students from around Nagarjan area.
“As far as the Union is concerned, Yimso is not engaged in any Naga Political group but lives his life with hard work and dedication,” the unions asserted.
The release issued by S. Keoshu, President, YUD and Tsukhumong, President, SUD further lamented that the Army arrested the victim randomly without proper investigation and thorough verification.
“It was made known that Yimso had travelled to Lahorijan Market to drop a male passenger as an auto driver. The passenger while sensing of his arrest escaped from the clutches of the Army in full public view and only the passenger bag could be recovered,” the release said.
The unions further expressed dismay that only the innocent driver was taken into custody and was “forced upon to confess which he has no knowledge and part of it while the real culprit escaped.” Yimso had no contact or information about the real absconder before that fateful day, the release added.
In this light, the unions have requested the investigation agencies to study the case with fairness and let no innocent person suffer.
