Singrijan June 29 (MExN): United Gorkha FC emerged winners of the first Gorkha Cup Football Tournament held at Singrijan from June 23 to 28.
In the final match, United FC defeated Karagaon in a tiebreaker after a well-fought goalless draw and won in penalty shootout. Rahul Gurung of UGFC and Vijay pulami from GYCD with 6 goals each were declared the highest scorer.
Divesh Chettri of United Gorkha FC was declared the best goalkeeper, Nikaho Tamang of United Gorkha FC was adjudged the best player of the tournament and Best Emerging play was begged by Karagaon XI, Ashish Rai of United Gorkha FC was adjudged Best Defender. The Gorkha Panthers FC Chümoukedima begged Best Discipline Team.
Attending the closing ceremony, chief guest, K Hukuto Khulu, State Executive Member BJP, Nagaland commended the United Gorkha FC Nagaland “for being a progressive society, not only in education but also in the field of games and sports.”
Guest of Honour, Shiva Kumar BK, State President, Hamro Chinari Nagaland Northeast India called upon “everyone, irrespective of any community,” to unite and collectively fight against the drug menace engulfing the society.
