United Nations Recognises Brian May's Asteroid Day

The Queen icon helped to establish Asteroid Day in 2014 in a bid to spread awareness about the potential dangers of an outer-space rock crashing to earth, and how to prepare to protect the planet.   On Monday (12Dec16), May and the co-founders of his cause announced the special day had been given the official backing of the U.N., and from now on, the date will be marked worldwide every June.   The news emerges three months after May's late bandmate, Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, was honoured with his own asteroid on what would have been his 70th birthday in September (16). He died in 1991.
