Sumi Community Old Ministers’ Hill, Kohima celebrates silver jubilee cum Tuluni
Kohima, July 8 (MExN): Sumi Community Old Ministers’ Hill (SCOMH), Kohima celebrated silver jubilee cum Tuluni festival (1993-18) on July 7 under the theme ‘Unity and vision is our motto’ at the residence of G. Kaito Aye, Minister for Agriculture and Co-operation, Government of Nagaland located in the locality.
Dr. Vinito Chishi, president, Kohima Sumi Hoho, who was the special guest, reminded the gathering that Sumis migrated from Zunheboto to various towns and cities for different purposes and along the way intermarriages happened with other tribes and communities.
Therefore, he said Sumis should maintain good relationship and coordination with other tribes to usher in peace and harmony, friendly relationship with different communities and strengthen the Sumi community, according to a press release from Vitoka K Aye, media and publicity in-charge of the silver jubilee.
Dr. Vinito also emphasized on the importance of Sumi dialect (Sutsah) and asserted Sumis should preserve their rich customs, languages, and traditions.
Dr. Neikiesalie (Nicky), Advisor for Rural Development, Government of Nagaland was also present at the celebration. He stated that the closeness of one community brings togetherness and unity and urged the gathering to continue to live in unity.
The establishment of Sumi Community Old Ministers’ Hill, Kohima and celebration of silver jubilee was presented by Jevito Achumi, Convenor, Jubilee Planning Board, SCOMH.
He pointed out that when SCOMH was formed in 1993, Sumi population in the Old Ministers’ Hill was very less. The core objective of formation of SCOMH by the founders, he stated, was to bring unity, peace, security and help amongst the community and strengthen the people and not only to preserve and protect its rich customs and traditions.
As a mark of the jubilee celebration, he urged the gathering to reflect on the community’s good works towards Sumi Hoho and other communities and live exemplary life to the people. He also wished good health and long life to all to reach the golden jubilee celebrations of the community.
James Wokha Swu, first Chairman of Sumi Community Old Ministers’ Hill, Kohima released the silver jubilee souvenir and Kiheto Shohe, Convenor, Souvenir Committee, Silver Jubilee highlighted the significance of the souvenir. Kiheto said that the records of SCOMH from its establishment on July 8, 1993 to 2018 have been well maintained for the future generations and distributed to the gathering.
The other dignitaries present at the celebration were Ghovili Achumi, president Sumi Totimi Hoho; Zhasalie Soliezuo, chairman, Panchayat Old Ministers’ Hill Colony, Kohima; Lukheto Aye, GB, Old Ministers’ Hill.
The celebration saw presentations of folk dance and indigenous songs and other items by men and women of the Sumi community. The programme was chaired by Khekishe Zhimo, Chairman SOMH Kohima and jubilee blessings prayer was said by Nishili Aye, Assistant Pastor, Fellowship, SBCK.
