The NSCN-IM Angami Region today termed the 'unification move' as unacceptable as it is initiated not for achieving Naga unity but with an 'ulterior motive' to serve the interest of a particular tribe.
Expressing total dissatisfaction over the move and declining to be part of the unification team, the Angami region authority led by “central administrative officer,” K K Angami, deputy kilonser “ministry of religious affairs,” Dr. P. Mor, member of steering committee, “retired lieutenant colonel” Victor Angami and tatar Neiba Kire today alleged that the move is being made not for the actual purpose of unification of the Naga underground workers but for the benefit of only a particular tribe. “There cannot be any unification amongst the Nagas if another tribe, such as Nagas of Manipur or Tangkhuls is left behind,” K K Angami reminded.
Dr. P. Mor reiterated that the NSCN-IM always stands for peace and reconciliation amongst the Nagas, but asserted that exclusion of particular Naga tribe or Naga civil organizations cannot be termed as unification. He also said that the move initiated by the Sumi Nagas of both the factions does not have the assent of either of their respective chairman nor any other Naga tribes, and therefore the move is not acceptable.
“If they truly want to initiate the process of unification then they must take into confidence the apex Naga bodies like the Naga Hoho, Naga Students’ Federation, Naga Peoples’ Movement for Human Rights etc.,” he said.
Dr. Mor also alleged that the Sumis have initiated the unification under the aegis of Western Sumi Hoho with ulterior motives. He said that the so called “unification team” of the 'NSCN' wants to exclude Nagas in Manipur and are trying to claim the land of Intangki forest, under Peren district of Nagaland to North Cachar Hills in Assam, as the land of the Sumis. “The move is not for achieving Naga sovereignty but for grabbing land for their own habitation,” he added.
Asserting that the “unification” move has been initiated only by defectors of both the factions, Neiba Kire, said such a move can never achieve success as they are trying to further exclude some Naga brethren rather than unifying. “Nagas should not be confused with the unification move initiated by the Sumis as it is not for attaining Naga sovereignty but only to achieve their own self-interested motives,” the NSCN-IM Angami Region authority added.
