Unity village first sub-health centre inaugurated

The first sub-health centre for Unity village located at 5th Mile, Chümoukedima was officially inaugurated by Jacob Zhimomi, Minister for Public Health Engineering Department as the special guest on December 10.

Speaking at the sideline of the inaugural, M Tialia Longkumer, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Chümoukedima told The Morung Express that although construction of the sub-health centre has been completed, it will take time for it to function.

Built for a total cost of Rs 17 lakh 75 thousand, it has six rooms with two attached toilets. 

She explained that to make it functional, manpower is required included nurses, medical attendant and other staff which can only be appointed through the National Rural Health Mission on contractual basis. 

“For which we will have to put up with the H&FW department at the earliest,” the CMO informed. 

She noted that the village boasts a total population of about 5887 individuals. “So the basic health care services can be provided through this sub-centre,” she said. 

Meanwhile, the contractor for the sub-health centre building disclosed that she was yet to receive the total sanctioned amount by the government. “I hope that they release it as soon as possible,” the contractor commented while informing that the construction completed in six months time. 

Residents urged to avail CMHIS 

Earlier, addressing the occasion PHED Minister Jacob Zhimomi spoke on the recent introduction of the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS) amounting to a sum of Rs 5 lakh per family to the people. This was in line with the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) scheme of the Central government. Through the sub-health centre, he encouraged the residents to avail the benefits being provided under the scheme. 

He encouraged the people of the state to put priority into being fit and healthy which is among the primary aspects of progress and development on all levels. 

“Only if you remain fit and healthy, then only we will be able to realise the fruits of development,” he said. 

Additionally, the Minister mentioned that in the last few years the government has focused on upgrading sub-health centres to primary health centres and for those who lack one are provided with a sub health centre including Unity Village. As such, he hoped that the health centre will provided the much needed medical facilities to its residents. 

Short speeches were also delivered by, O Yanger Phom, Advisor to S Pangnyu Phom, Minister, Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) and Hetoka Awomi, Chairperson, Unity Village Council. Welcome address was given by Athonlo Thyug, Village Development Board (VDB) Secretary while invocation was done by Tohuli Sumi, Children Pastor of Unity Village Sumi Baptist Akukuhou.
