Universities have responsibility of producing highly skilled manpower: Governor Acharya

Kohima, September 1 (MExN): The Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya stated that universities play a crucial role in providing students with the new knowledge and skills needed to meet countless challenges in a changing and globalized world. He called on students not to shy away from hard work and stated that work is worship.  

PRO to Governor in a press note stated that Acharya was addressing the formal session of the 27th Fresher’s meet of the Nagaland University Students’ Union Kohima Campus Meriema at RCEMPA on September 1 as the guest speaker.  

Governor Acharya opined that universities have the responsibility of producing not only educated but also well equipped and highly skilled manpower for overall development of the society. He emphasised on the importance of having dialogues between university, industries and trade sector for the development of the State and employment of the students when they pass out.  

The Governor also encouraged students to take up entrepreneurship and be job givers and not job seekers. Stating that the Government sector has reached a saturation point for employment, he said youth need to look beyond Government jobs. Students have to excel not just in academics but expand their interest in other vocational education in order to acquire relevant skills, including skills needed for work and entrepreneurship, he added.  

Governor Acharya also informed that the Central and State Governments have introduced various welfare schemes and programmes targeted for the youth to help them stand on their feet. He encouraged the youth to avail such programmes for their benefit.  

Pro Vice Chancellor NU, KC Prof RC Gupta exhorted the students. A special song was presented by Moipen while Imnasenla delivered a speech on behalf of the freshers. The programme was conducted by Lito Zhimomi while President NUSU, KC Chongrokhum Sangtam delivered the Presidential Address.
