Unlicensed food businesses liable for action under FSA: CMO Kohima

KOHIMA, JULY 11 (MExN): The Office of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kohima has reminded all Food Business Operators (FBOs) that as per Section 31 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and Regulations 2.1.1 and 2.1.2 under the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing & Registration of Food Business), it is mandatory for all FBOs to obtain registration or licence under the Act.

Pharmacies storing or selling complementary foods and food supplements must also be registered or licenced under the same provisions, it said.

Operating a food business without the required Registration Certificate or Licence is an offence and punishable under the Food Safety Act and Regulations, the CMO office stated in a release issued by Kezhangulie Yimchunger, Designated Officer (Food Safety), Kohima.

FBOs who have not yet obtained the licence or registration certificate have been advised to apply online through www.foscos.fssai.gov.in or approach the office of the Chief Medical Officer, Food Safety Section, at Paramedical Colony for assistance.

The public has also been requested to report any food-related issues or complaints to the CMO’s Food Safety Section for necessary follow-up action.
