Imphal, April 22 (MExN): Women Committee, United NGOs Mission (UNM-M) has strongly condemned the brutal “gang rape” of two minor students on April 14 in Imphal. In a press note received here, the Women Committee also strongly appealed the public and concerned authorities to extend their support and co-operation in “delivering justice and in rendering psycho social support to the victims and their families.” It also requested the Cybercrime cells to check and monitor any undesirable comments and pictures related to the incident. The Committee further urged the Government and concerned Department for speedy trial of the case and awarding befitting punishment to the accused “persons according to the law so that this type of crime is not repeated in future.” Precautionary measures must also adopted by the government to check and prevent the increasing cases of crime against women in the state especially during special occasion’s ns and festivals, it added. The Women Committee lauded the prompt action of the SP lmphal East and his team; Secretary, District Legal Services Authority Imphal East and other relevant bodies; CMl society Organizations; and student bodies for their proactive roles.
