Confusion prevailed surrounding an unexplained stoppage of a Dibrugarh-bound train in Dimapur on May 21 in Dimapur. The train stopped suddenly before crossing into Assam after crossing the Dimapur railway station. As per an unconfirmed report, 10-15 passengers in the train got off and escaped, panicking residents in the vicinity where the train stopped. The report added that some of the passengers, who got off escaped.
The police however maintained that there was no report/complaint of any person getting off or escaping from the train. While a Dimapur police official confirmed there was an unscheduled stop after crossing the railway station around 9:00 am, the official maintained that there was no report from the railway authorities of anyone escaping. “The train’s Emergency Chain was reportedly pulled by some passengers,” he said.
A senior railway official at the Dimapur railway station told The Morung Express that it was a Shramik train from Secundarabad to Dibrugarh, which had no scheduled stop in Dimapur. Citing initial inquiry, the official said that it crossed the station at 8:54 am and three minutes later it stopped all of a sudden after crossing the old overbridge. “It stopped for 12 minutes and restarted at 9:09 am continuing on to Dibrugarh,” he said.
He also maintained that there was no report from the security personnel in the train of any passenger getting off. He added that report was being awaited as to what caused the train to make an unscheduled stop.
