MLA Dr Sukhato A Sema and others during 50th anniversary of Unified/Undivided Naga Nationalist Last Camp on December 13.

KOHIMA, DECEMBER 13 (MExN): The 50th Anniversary of the Unified/Undivided Naga Nationalist Last Camp (UNSETI) was celebrated today at Alhoküsa Ghüchi, Ighanumi, under the Pughoboto sub-division of Zunheboto district, with the theme “Unite Us Again.”
The event commenced with the unveiling of a monolith by Dr Sukhato A. Sema, MLA for the 13 A/C Pughoboto constituency. This was followed by the dedication of the monolith, led by Rev Dr Hotokhu P. Zhimo, Secretary of M&E SABAK and Chaplain of the Naga Club.
In his address as the special guest, Dr Sema expressed his deep joy at being part of the historic celebration. He emphasized the significance of the 50th anniversary as a major milestone for UNSETI and called for unity among the Naga people for the collective betterment of all. He reaffirmed that UNSETI continues to be a beacon of hope for Naga unity.
Dr James Inaho Swu, Associate Professor at TTC, provided a brief history of UNSETI, emphasizing that its core mission has always been the unity of Nagaland. He acknowledged the fragmentation within Naga society, which has emerged along various lines such as community, tribe, and others. He noted that the anniversary serves as a reminder for all Nagas to set aside these divisions and work toward a shared goal of self-determination and unity.
Short speeches were delivered by K. Shievotso Rhakho, VCC of Kutsapo Village and President of the VCC Association in Phek District; Zavecho Khesoh, from Tehephu Village; and Nikuto Swu, Head GB of Ighanumi Village.
The programme was led by James Achumi, GB of Ighanumi Village, with a prayer for Naga Unity by Dukhuyi, GS of Naga Shisha Hoho. Khatio, Pastor of the AG Church in Ighanumi Village, invoked God's blessing.
The welcome address was delivered by Zhuwoto Kiba, Head GB of Ighavito Village, while Kuhoji Kiba, Convenor of the Planning Committee, introduced the dignitaries. A special number was presented by Igha Lejo, and the event concluded with a vote of thanks by Pukhato Yeptho, GB, and a benediction by Shihoto Phucho, Pastor of Ighavito Baptist Church.
The anniversary was also marked by the release of a special Souvenir, reflecting on the enduring legacy of UNSETI. The editorial notes highlighted that 2024 marks a pivotal milestone, inviting deep reflection on the camp's role in preserving the Naga people’s identity, culture, and aspirations. The camp, founded fifty years ago, became a sanctuary for values such as integrity, mutual respect, and shared purpose, and remains a symbol of resilience and hope, the editorial note read.
