DIMAPUR, JUNE 9 (MExN): The Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) has drawn attention to the insufficient student intake capacity of Government Higher Secondary School in Mon Town.

A press release from the KSU said that every year around 1500 students qualify for their HSLC from private and government schools in Mon Hq alone. However, it informed that due to acute limited seats at the Government Secondary School, “the fate of poor students lay in jeopardy.”

“Mon being the largest district, the percentage of qualified students annually can be estimated at par with any other districts. However, the scarce infrastructure in education sector derails the hope of students for better academic future,” the KSU said.

It further stated that “our choice for government institution today is not only impelled by exorbitant charges in private schools but also a growing optimism in the capacity of government to provide quality education.”

The KSU said that every year it has been highlighting the need for additional Government Higher Secondary School in Mon.  However, it lamented that the government had ignored their plea endangering the future of hundreds of students.

The KSU appealed to the government and the concerned department for immediate upgradation of the Government High School ‘C’ Mon Town to Higher Secondary from the forthcoming academic session in order to accommodate the qualified underprivileged students. It meanwhile stated that if the government fails to do so, the union will prevent the commencement of the new academic session.
