Urgent action needed for preserving Chathe River, highlights CTC Chairman

Chümoukedima, November 12 (MExN): The monthly meeting of Chümoukedima District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) was held at DC’s conference hall, Chümoukedima on November 11.

Initiating the meeting, Advisor Urban Development & Municipal Affairs & Chairman DPDB, Chümoukedima, Zhaleo Rio welcomed members and Chümoukedima Town Council (CTC), Chairman Lhowito Khro, stated a DIPR report. 

Addressing the house, the CTC Chairman highlighted the need for urgent action for preserving the Chathe River which is severely contaminated due to riverbed mining, excavation, waste dumping and road cutting. 

Deliberating on this matter, DC mentioned that a consultative meeting will be held with concerned departments, CSOs and various stake holders to work out modalities on how to tackle this issue. 

While discussing the agenda on speed regulation on National Highway within Chümoukedima district, the board deliberated the urgent need for speed regulation within Chümoukedima district and for installing speedcam along the highway to monitor speeding vehicle. 

Discussing on the agenda of the Project Director of DRDA, Chümoukedima, the Board decided to approach the higher authority for establishment of separate PD, DRDA for Chümoukedima district. 

Further, the board decided to nominate one representative from Chakhroma Public Organization as co-opted member of Chümoukedima DPDB.

Earlier, Advisor & Chairman DPDB, Chümoukedima, Zhaleo Rio stated that it was the duty of all government servants to attend the meeting regularly and be more interactive. Noting this, the DC Chümoukedima decided to cross check the attendance record of all Head of Offices (HoOs) and to take up in the next DPDB meeting, the DIPR report stated. 

He informed that soon every department had to work out their action plan and work programmes for coming Fiscal year 2025-26. To put forward what activities are they planning to take up and what will be best for the district under their respective jurisdiction, so that it can be acted accordingly. He also appealed the concerned department to make it a point to supply the seed, saplings and various plants at the right time to the farmers and villagers taking note of the climatic conditions. He requested the concerned officers that in the coming year they should have an organised system of planning and implementation at the right time.

While reviewing the minutes of the previous meeting, the board recommended Shiheli Old Age Home, Ganeshnagar Village for registration based on the report submitted by the District Welfare Office, Chümoukedima. While for registration of the Two Wheeler Taxi Association, the board deliberated at length and highlighted the necessity for allocation of taxi permits specifically for Chümoukedima district. 

Other proposed agendas discussed were society registration of Nagaland United Sports Club at Razaphe Basa, Chümoukedima, the board decided to recommend for registration to the Government, while registration of Yeknak Society at Thilixu Village, Chümoukedima was deferred to the next DPDB meeting. 

Later, power point presentation was made by DEO Chümoukedima on PM SHRI, where he highlighted the aims, objectives, funding, duration and criteria of the scheme.
