US Missions host virtual talk on risks of illegal migration

Dimapur, June 6 (MExN): US Mission in Vietnam and US Mission in India jointly hosted a virtual discussion on ‘Smart Choices, Safe Futures: Understanding the Risks and Realities of Illegal Migration’ on June 5. The moderated discussion was led by immigration expert and government advisor, Michael Hough. The speaker is Director of Federal Relations for NumbersUSA and a veteran of the US Air Force.

Updates received here stated that the session was organised with the objective to provide participants from India and Vietnam, better understanding of the economics and public policies behind enhanced US border security measures, changes in US immigration policy, and the risks of illegal immigration.

The former Maryland state senator and Chief of Staff to US Representative Alex Mooney (R), Hough brought extensive experience in immigration policy and federal relations.

During the session, Hough emphasised the strong public mandate behind President Donald Trump’s efforts to tackle illegal immigration. He outlined the administration’s “whole-of-government” strategy to enhance border security and reduce unauthorized migration. Highlighting the risks and legal repercussions of illegal entry, the speaker also explained the economic and policy justifications for U.S. immigration reforms. Hough stressed the administration’s firm commitment to addressing illegal immigration, stating that President Trump has enforced immigration laws more with greater determination than any predecessor to tackle this persistent challenge.

Hough also responded to queries from the participants.
