USBLA clean election seminar held

Kiphire, July 21 (MExN): The United Sangtam Baptist Lithro Ashimukhong (USBLA) today held a clean election seminar at Hopongkyu Memorial Hall where USLP, USSC, AST, church leaders, village elders and USBLA staffs attended the meeting.  

Exhorting the gathering at the seminar vice President USLP, K Tsilise said, USLP is with the USBLA and the NBCC in ‘clean election’ which is one of the most important things that the society wants and assured all possible support for the success of the campaign.  

He however said, no matter how good the lecture may be it is up to an individual to make choice whether to choose the right or wrong and asked the leaders present to maintain integrity so that the public will follow the good path of the leaders.  

He also said if leaders live a righteous and truthful life, society will automatically be put right and asked the leaders to do what is right.  

Joseph, Chairman USBYE board who also spoke on the occasion said, during election “when we take money to vote or sell our vote after election we have no right to question the elected members even if they don’t develop our town and district” and asked the leaders present to not sell vote or ask money during election.  

He also said, as Christians it is the duty of each one to maintain the Christian principle and added, “if you sell your vote you are committing sin because your vote is your life.”  

Alison, Clean Election Core Member, NBCC who gave a detailed talk on clean election shared on the ‘dos and don’ts’ of clean election and also added, “let this day be ‘remake and reconstruction day’ of the USBLA as the most important topic is discussed on this day with all the stake holders under the association.”  

He also stressed on the role and responsibility of the church, civil societies, leaders and elders, students and the electorates as to how one should exercise ones franchise as per election code of conduct.  

He also asked the leaders and the church members present to be truthful and added, it is a blessing to live a righteous life and upholding clean election is one of them.  

The meeting adopted certain points during the discussion. They included: to uphold the 16 point resolution of the NBCC ‘clean election;’ not to use money during election and the leaders and the elders will educate the citizens on this; not to use liquor or arms during election; and to entrust local church leaders to educate the believers on clean election in respective churches.
