Use funds for Development, State told

Dimapur, May 18 (MExN): The Planning Commission of India is hoping that the Government of Nagaland would ‘judiciously utilize’ the Rs. 1810 crore annual outlay for year 2011-2012 set for Nagaland. A press release issued by the Government today said that Dr. Montek Singh, deputy chairman of the Planning Commission would ‘strength the peace process and the economic and social developments’ in the state.
The deputy chairman of the commission Dr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia addressed a meeting of members and officials of the commission and the Nagaland government in Delhi, the press release appended by Chief Secretary Lalthara said. Dr. Ahluwalia congratulated the Nagaland chief minister and the delegation for “many positive and encouraging developments in the areas of peace and economic development taking place under various sectors in the state, the note said. He expressed hope that the funds would be judiciously utilized to further strengthen the peace process and the economic and social developments taking place in the state.
In addition, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio highlighted “improvements in the law and order situation” and drastic decline in violence in the state during the past two years.
He also highlighted the various developments in the state. During his address, Rio highlighted “several development needs of the state” especially in the area of infrastructure “as they cannot be accommodated within the state plan resources.” These “needs” include a foothill road from Dimapur to Tizit, highways along the Indo-Myanmar border, a national highway from Tuensang to Tizit via Tobu and Mon and others including the Cheithu airport, the Tuli paper Mill, a sports complex, a medical college and “IIIT etc”.
