Utkal Divas celebrated at Lok Bhavan Kohima

Kohima, April 1 (MExN): Utkal Divas, marking the foundation day of the state of Odisha, was celebrated at Dr Imkongliba Ao Hall, Lok Bhavan, Kohima, on April 1.

Governor of Nagaland Nand Kishore Yadav graced the occasion and joined members of the Odia community in commemorating the day, which marks the formation of Odisha on April 1, 1936, as India’s first state created on a linguistic basis.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor highlighted the historical significance of the occasion, stating that it symbolises cultural pride, linguistic identity and the resilience of the people of Odisha.

He also referred to the state’s rich heritage, from the ancient Kalinga civilisation to the spiritual legacy associated with Lord Jagannath, and noted the historical impact of the Kalinga War under Emperor Ashoka in shaping a message of peace.

Highlighting Odisha’s cultural contributions, he appreciated its art, literature and classical dance forms such as Odissi, describing the state as an integral part of India’s diverse cultural landscape.

The Governor expressed appreciation for the celebration in Kohima, stating that such events reflect the spirit of unity in diversity. He also commended the Odia community in Nagaland for preserving their traditions while contributing to the social fabric of the state.

He further observed that Nagaland and Odisha, despite geographical distance, share common values such as cultural pride, strong community bonds and respect for heritage.

The programme concluded with the Governor extending greetings to the people of Odisha residing in Nagaland and across the country, informed a press release from the PRO Lok Bhavan, Kohima.
