KOHIMA, JANUARY 24 (MExN): The Uttar Pradesh State Foundation Day was celebrated at Raj Bhavan, Kohima on January 24.

Governor of Nagaland, La Ganesan, addressed the gathering with pride and gratitude, highlighting the celebration of not only Uttar Pradesh’s foundation but also the enduring bond between the people of Nagaland and the vibrant community from Uttar Pradesh. He highlighted that such occasions foster unity and understanding, enriching the cultural fabric of the nation through mutual respect for the diverse traditions that make India unique.

“The objective of today’s celebration is to strengthen our existing ties and appreciate the incredible unity in diversity that defines our country,” said Governor Ganesan. He went on to describe Uttar Pradesh as the "Heartland of India," a state rich in socio-cultural and religious history. He noted that the state is renowned for its contributions to culture, from classical Kathak dance to the artistry of Banarasi silk and Lucknowi chikankari embroidery.

The Governor also pointed to Uttar Pradesh's spiritual significance, with renowned places such as Varanasi, Prayagraj, Ayodhya, Sarnath, and Kushinagar, which attract millions of pilgrims globally. He described these landmarks as uniting people in faith, harmony, and devotion, making Uttar Pradesh a symbol of India’s collective soul.

Reflecting on the warm relationship between Nagaland and Uttar Pradesh, Governor Ganesan recalled how the people of Nagaland affectionately refer to their counterparts from Uttar Pradesh as "Desh wale," a term that signifies both geographical connection and a deep bond of respect. He also acknowledged the invaluable contributions of Uttar Pradesh’s people to Nagaland, particularly in the fields of business, construction, and entrepreneurship. “Their skills, culture, and hard work have played a crucial role in the growth and progress of Nagaland,” he added.

The Governor further expressed his hopes that this celebration would serve as a reminder of the strong ties between the two states, inspiring further efforts toward prosperity and harmony.

A special speech on Uttar Pradesh was delivered by Manoj Maddheshi, followed by brief remarks from Jagdamba Mall. Cultural performances were a key highlight of the event, with various members of the Uttar Pradesh community showcasing their talents.

Performances included Bhakti Nritya by Annpurna Gupta, Prem Nritya by Riya Gupta, a group dance by Alisha and friends, a bhajan by K. P. Gupta, and a Kathak dance performance on the Mahabharata by Harshita Maddheshi.

The event was attended by various dignitaries, with the Commissioner & Secretary to the Governor, Rajesh Soundararajan, delivering the welcome address. The vote of thanks was presented by Section Officer Jochule.
