Uttarakhand man who came to Mumbai for singing career and ended up in poverty reunited with family after 10 years

Mumbai, January 30 (PTI): A man who came to Mumbai from Uttarakhand to try his luck as a singer in the Hindi film industry and ended up living over 10 years outside places of worship to get food amid poverty has been reunited with his family, police said on Sunday.

Kanchan Joshi was 22 when he arrived in the metropolis, and two months later, facing failure in his quest, started eating food outside dargahs, temples and such places, an official said.

The official said Joshi had contacted his family in 2015 but did not say where he was, adding that last month someone called up his mother and told her about his presence in Mumbai.

As the call had come from an area under LT Marg police station, Joshi's elder brother Krishanchand contacted here, after which using technical inputs and call record details, he was traced in Byculla.

Senior Inspector Jyoti Desai of LT Marg police station said Joshi, who stayed back despite failing to become a film singer, was reunited with his family on Friday.
