Mokokchung, June 12 (MExN): Aliba Village, under Mokokchung District, saw a new programme, the first of its kind, being held from June 7 to 11.
A few like-minded youngsters got together and introduced the 'Vacation School', a place where kids in the village were taught English Phonics and Life Skills.
According to a press release, the programme was initiated by N. Jamir and Limaonen Imchen in collaboration with Aliba Student's Union and the Village Council.
N. Jamir, author of the book The Reluctant Daughter, taught Life Skills for Classes 6 to 9. She covered topics including 'Knowing your Identity', 'Confidence' and 'Self-Esteem'.
Hannah Brown taught Phonics through activity based learning for Classes B to 9. This was to enable the students to read and write more easily, and to pronounce their spoken English more clearly, the release informed.
The Vacation School was also blessed to have a young lady visiting from the US, who taught basic sign language to a student with hearing impairment, along with her friends and family to help them communicate more easily.
Jamir and Imchen, the co founders of the school, stated, "What we've taught this summer is just the first step.” The duo informed that they will continue teaching phonics and life skills in future and also introduce 'activity learning' concept on other subjects as well.
The team was greatly encouraged by the response in the village and look forward to making the Vacation School a regular programme, the release stated.
